About the Foundation

The NUHA Foundation is an English charitable organisation (NGO) focusing on education and development.

Our goal is to foster effective learning communities, by supporting existing structures. We promote the ability to learn on a continuous basis and in a spirit of pluralism. We take a pragmatic view on programme formulation and implementation: our efforts must have a sustainable positive impact for our beneficiaries' socio-economic development, while strengthening their cultural and national identities. We intend for our beneficiaries to take pride in their heritage as they become active participants in the global knowledge society. Passionate about our work, we constantly monitor the needs for and performance of our activities. Our approach is one of professional voluntarism and accountability to our various stakeholders.

We currently have two programmes: Libraries for Development, and English Conversation. We have begun pilot implementation in Salamieh, Syria. We will soon be writing about a successful six-month initiative we have just completed with high school children in Syria and Canada!

We are privileged to have benefited from considerable international donor and partner support since our inception:

  • Donors and Travelling Supporters. Thanks to our international donors and travelling supporters, we have received and been able to transport to Salamieh several hundred books already. Thank you! In addition, we have over two thousand books pledged in different parts of the world and we are looking for ways to bring them to Syria in a cost-effective manner.
  • Partners. We have two partners: the UNDP-sponsored Salamieh Telecentre and the English IT company Propensive Ltd. In addition, the American law firms Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP and Dechert LLP have previously advised the Foundation on a pro bono basis. We bank with HSBC.

On behalf of all our stakeholders, we thank you for your support.
