Announcing the 2011 Blogging Prize winners!

After much deliberation, we are excited to announce the two winners of the first NUHA blogging prize! We came to our decision by looking at four central elements: originality, narrative, structure, and use of language.

For the adult category, Nicholas Omoh's essay on what an education should be in the 21st century is the winner of the NUHA Blogging Prize for the adult category. As one of the judges pointed out, "He went a few steps further than the normal, accepted ideals surrounding education and started to address one of the key problems with the system, and something that every educator struggles with - a balance between delivery of accumulated knowledge and the chance for the flourishing of the individual's own mind."

In the youth category, we are proud to announce that we have selected Stephanie Renault's essay on education being the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the world for the NUHA Blogging Youth Prize. She presented her ideas clearly and succinctly, and defended her ideas well with examples from around the world.

I would like to say that these essays were superior; in particular, there were many debates for the winner of the youth category. In fact, the youth category did not get a shortlist because all the entries were of very high quality. In the adult category, it was clear that the writers used examples of life experiences and examples of the world around them while thinking critically about the issues at hand. Al Karim, David, Anny and I were extremely impressed by these essays, and all who entered should be very proud of their work.
